Our own Song You Should Know: Monthly Mix captures what’s been soundtracking my month: recent discoveries, long-standing favourites, and songs I keep telling myself I’ll move on from. Some months it’s focused, others it’s a complete mix bag, but it’s always guided by the same idea: these are songs worth your time, at least right now.

Full disclosure: We did a mix in January, and then got a little lazy. Here are all the songs I loved from Feb through to April.

Tiny Habits - Right In Front of Me

A slightly yacht-rock influenced number from our favourite harmonising trio. Excited to see if this sound is explored more on new music.

Mitski - If I Leave

Giving vibes of the Mitski we grew up loving. Absolutely love her previous few records, but hearing that her guitar is back in the mix was such a delight for her most recent record ‘Nothing’s About to Happen to Me’

Egoism - Catching Up/YOLO

Egoism is Australias answer to The 1975's first 3 albums, and you can't change my mind. This is meant as a compliment.

Fcukers - If you wanna party, come over to my house

There's some great electronic mucis floating around at the moment, and the full length record from this New York duo really knows how to harness the energy of an after-afterhours warehouse party in Brooklyn.

Sly Withers - The Hallway

Our favourite Perth emo-rock lads returned with a new record, pushing themselves further both sonically and lyrically. The whole album is very much worth your time, but this track just builds perfectly and really showcases co-frontman Jono Mata’s vocal range.

Hellcat Speedracer - Stay Blessed (feat LEGZDINA)

As discussed above with the Fcukers track, there’s some great electronic music getting around at the moment. This track from Aussie duo Hellcat Speedracer is absolutely world class, and I’m just waiting for it to take the guys to worldwide fame. It is a great party starter to any night out or house party.

Buzzy Lee - Bad Company

There is a dream-like quality to this track from Sasha Spielberg most recent album. The way that her vocals just casually drift in and leave almost make it feel like the song never happened but was just a sweet memory you might have had years ago.

Dijon - alley-oop

It’s honestly just Dijon’s world and we exist around it. The more I dive into this mans back catalogue, the more entranced I find myself with his songwriting and sonic choices, This song just melts as it goes along.

Kasey Musgraves - Dry Spell

Horn-dog Kasey bringing the yee-haw back to her music, and we’re here for the double entendres. Between her and Sabrina Carpenter, horndog music is back and in full swing.

Holly Hebe - Swimsuit

I’ve posted about this publicly on our Instagram, but Holly Hebe just continues to come out with indie hit after indie hit. In the coming years, she’s going to be unstoppable on a global stage.

corook - Scooby

Sometimes I try to avoid songs that blow up on TikTok that seem like they were written for that direct purpose. I’ll give this one a pass as I feel it actually holds some substance and addresses how fucked we all really are at the moment. And who doesn’t love a Scooby-Doo reference?

Girl Scout - Keeper

Angsty but warm indie rock from this Stockholm band. Check out the whole album as well if you want a band that kind of sounds like The Beths, but depressed, Again….meant as a compliment.

Matt Corby - Long & Short

Australia’s collective man-crush has a new album out this month in April, and it’s very good. He’s always had a buttery smooth voice, but his vocals in this track (and specifically during the last chorus) are just sublime.

Death Cab for Cutie - Riptide

As someone raised on Death Cab for Cutie, their last few records have felt a little lacking. As they return to an indie record label for their forthcoming record, this track is reminiscent of the guys we fell in love with over 20 years ago. Ben Gibbard also never disappoints with his vocal choices,

Lottie McLeod - Important to You

If your song sounds like an Australian Phoebe Bridgers, circa Strangers in the Alps, you’re a winner in my books.

MUNA - Dancing on the Wall

Seriously, no-one in this world does indie-pop as well as MUNA does. Following a breakthrough record and a global tour, this track has all the trademarks of a MUNA banger, yet still feels very fresh. Excited for their new album of the same name to drop next month.

Tom Misch - Running Away

There is a calmness that runs all across Misch's most recent record 'Full Circle'. Whatever he's doing to create his music, I feel like a lot of his contemporaries could learn from him. This is an album favourite of mine.

RAYE - The WhatsApp Shakespeare.

I will admit, I missed RAYE and debut album. I think I just completely missed the hype and then had to play catch up when she toured with Laneway Festival. For this most recent record ‘THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE.', I'm fully onboard the RAYE train. Stunning concept, stunning producetion, and the execution is one of the best things you'll hear all year.

Miss Kaninna - Mob Ties

In what I'm sure if not her only release of music for 2026, our pal Miss Kaninna drops a fierce new track, showing her solidarity with her community and giving the middle finger to white racist scumbags.

KNEECAP - FENIAN

New KNEECAP record coming next month, with this being one of the album highlights. I'm fully onboard the KNEECAP train now, so excited to see where this new album will take them

Holly Humberstone - Cruel World

This second record, also titled Cruel World, has HH sounding a lot more confident in her songwriting than in her debut record. The little sonic flourishes that sit throughout this entire record are also a nice touch.

James Blake - Trying Times

The new James Blake album really surprised me. He's always done great work, but the way this record just ebbs and flows, he makes it seem like an effortless wave of heartfelt indie/electronica. This might be my AOTY so far.

Ellie O'Neill - Silent Water

Ellie O'Neill is the lovechild of Phoebe Bridgers and Paul Mescal from another parralell universe, where they didn't break up but had a beautiful musically inclinced child.

Arlo Parks - Blue Disco

This new Arlo Parks record kind of snuck up on me, as I feel there wasn't as much press about it and the singles released were somewhat lowkey. Listening to the whole album now, it's apparent that Arlo Parks can shape-shift into whatever kind of genre that she likes, and still confidently sound like her.

My New Band Believe - Love Story

I can admit that I maybe didn't see the hype when it came to Black Midi and their output, but this debut record from member Cameron Picton has be absolutely hooked. This track is a standout

Teenage Joans - Bandits

Adelaides finest pop-punk duo go country, Great results ensue, especially when both members become front vocalists.

Robyn - Talk to Me

I feel like it's every millenials job to be spinning that new Robyn record.

Jose Gonzalez - For Every Dusk

There is an intimiacy with this track from Jose's new record. The fact that is was recorded and overdubbed multiple times makes it feel both warm and familiar, but sparse at the same time.

PASH - East End Girls

Adelaide indie-pop boys doing the lords work.

Old Mervs - Heavy in the Morning

Coming off a pretty big 12-18 months, the Old Mervs lads return with a song that sounds like touring with the likes of Liam Gallagher and The Wombats has rubbed off on them. Same songwriting style, confident evolution of sonics.....love your work boys!

The Lemon Twigs - I Just Can't Get Over Losing You

The Lemon Twigs have always had a throwback and vintage sound, but this track from their new album genuinely feels like it's been unearthed from the 60's.

BLACKPINK - GO

This song sounds as if K-POP Demon Hunters and Skrillex had a baby. For the third time in this playlist, meant as a compliment.
