Following festival slots at BIGSOUND, Harvest Rock and St. Kilda Festival, plus landing at #23 in triple J Unearthed’s Most Played Artists of 2025, Kaurna Land / Adelaide indie rock outfit Sunsick Daisy today return with soaring new single ‘Waiting For’.
Blending the band’s hazy, reverb-drenched style of songwriting with a tinge of country-infused heartache, ‘Waiting For’ captures the emotional tension of trying to define a relationship. Led by the dreamy vocal combination of Kane Gabell and Sarah Grainger, the track swells through walls of dense guitar work before opening into a chorus that could be taken from a 2000s coming-of-age film - nostalgic, yearning and infectious.
“‘Waiting For’ is a story of a situation-ship in which two people are caught up in a push & pull of emotions and how they deal with it,” explains Kane. “While on tour, I listened to a lot of (country singer) Glen Campbell in the back of the car. I loved the way he would tell stories through his music and it was definitely an inspiration for this.”
Building on the bold new era introduced with October single, ‘Pale Blue’, ‘Waiting For’continues to expand Sunsick Daisy’s colourful, eclectic sound, while keeping their signature atmospheric shoegaze at the centre. The track is a magnetic standout in the band’s ever-growing catalogue - a wistful, weightless release grounded by the commanding tones of bassist Ella Phillips and Kane and Sarah’s intertwining, mesmerising harmonies.
The Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows
This song to me is the first shoegaze song ever. The drone of the tambura/sitar and the way it never truly takes off yet takes you on a journey is beautiful.
Rufus Wainwright - Dinner At Eight
It’s a beautiful track written by a beautiful man. It’s so emotional - soft and then loud with a big orchestra. Never fails to make me cry, wonderful.
Glen Campbell - Gentle On My Mind
This song inspired our new song ‘Waiting For’. The storytelling, chord progression, melody… everything about this song makes you reflect on a life you never lived, yet feel connected to
Sigur Rós - Svefn-g-englar
Just so beautiful. I’ve grown up listening to Sigur Rós and this track feels to me like the calm after a breakdown, or sitting in a car while it’s raining anxiously awaiting something. It’s just beautiful.
The Stone Roses - Made Of Stone
Wouldn’t have Sunsick Daisy if not for The Stone Roses. Everything about this tune is class. RIP Mani, his bass lines have inspired so many, including us!
Brian Jonestown Massacre - When Jokers Attack
Just a massive track. Makes you want to roll your windows down on a sunny day and drive. With a confident swagger to it as well, makes you want to grab life and run.
Ride - Leave Them All Behind
This band is genius and they have shaped our writing massively. What a track, what a band! Andy Bell is my idol - shout out to him. This band is probably the most influential to me.
Slowdive - 40 Days
This is groovy and it takes you on a journey. The lyrics are so profound but also accessible and the guitar work and production is just brilliant.
Pink Floyd - Breathe (In The Air)
If I could put all of Dark Side Of The Moon on here I would. The album is just a journey and this song in particular just takes you somewhere… I don’t know where but it lifts your spirit. For me, it’s calming.
Leonard Cohen - Suzanne
This track always makes me think of my late nanna… She loved Leonard. I listen to it often and think about her. But the story telling is just beautiful, I mean the man was a poet so you know it’s going to be profound. This track makes you want to sit and sway, or grab a loved one and dance slowly. It’s a must.
